Lee Shau Kee was born in Shunde, Guangdong, China. His family were poor, only being able to afford to eat meat or fish a couple of times a month. Along with Kwok Tak-Seng the father of the Kwok Brothers, he founded Sun Hung Kai a real estate conglomerate that in 2012 was the second largest of its kind in the world.

In 1976 he founded Henderson Land Development which deals with, along with real estate, hotels, restaurants and even internet services. It is through Henderson Land Development that he has made the majority of his wealth.

Alongside his real estate interests, Lee Shau Kee has also accrued significant profits via his mainland-controlled stocks. It is these dealings that gave rise to him being known as Asia’s Master of Stock. Being one of the very few multi-billionaires in the world who was the fourth born child has meant he is also referred to as Uncle Four.

In 2019 when he was 91 years of age, Lee Shau-kee stepped down from his role as managing director and chairman, with his sons Martin Lee and Peter replacing him. Outside of business, Lee has a well-earned reputation as a philanthropist.
