Lee Man Tat Biography

Lee Man Tat was born in Macau in 1929, the eldest son of Lee Siu-nam. His grandfather Lee Kum-sheung founded Lee Kum Kee, the company based in Zhuhai that is credited with inventing oyster sauce in 1888.
In 1972 Lee Man Tat bought out his uncles, with the aid of his father, and took over from him in running the company. Later in 1986 he bought his brother’s stake in the company, which accounted for 40% of the total number of shares.

2017 saw the company expand their operations into Europe with the acquisition of London’s iconic Walkie-Talkie building for $1.7 billion.

While Lee has stepped back from the day to day running of the business, remaining on board in an advisory capacity, his children have taken an active role.
