Lim Kok Thay (Tan Sri Lim) is the second son of Lim Goh Tong, the founder of The Genting Group. Unlike his father who arrived at just 19 from Fujian with barely a dollar to his name, Lim attended the University of London, gaining a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. In 1976 he was appointed to the board of the group, and then on the retirement of his father in 2003 stepped up to become chairman.

It was under his leadership that the company expanded into the global player it is today, and he developed brands such as Resorts World, Awana, Crockfords and Maxims as well as partnerships with the likes of Universal Studios and Hard Rock Hotel.

Genting UK is the largest operator of casinos in the United Kingdom, and Genting also run Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore, the only Universal Studios theme park in the region.
