Son of the late Kwek Hong Png, the founder of the Hong Leong Group, Kwek originally went to London where he trained as a lawyer. In the 1960’s however, he made up his mind to return to Singapore and join his family business, becoming chairman in 1990.

Under his leadership, the business flourished even more, and today comprises of over 300 separate companies, 12 of them listed. Kwek is chairman of City Developments Limited (CDL), the second largest real estate developer in the whole of South East Asia. With interests in 20 countries across the globe, it has more than 250 subsidiaries and has made a concerted effort to expand its worldwide presence in recent years.

Kwek Hong Png is also chairman of Millennium & Copthorne (M&C) Hotels, currently in the top forty of international hotel groups globally, with more than 120 properties in 19 countries. One of the companies that falls under the Hong Leong Group is Hong Leong Finance. With 28 branches across Singapore, it is the largest finance company on the island.
