Masahiro Miki Biography
Hailing from Japan, but with Korean descent Masahiro Miki is the founder and majority shareholder of ABC-Mart the Tokyo based shoe manufacturer. The former amateur boxer graduated from Toho Gakuen tanki University with a Bachelor of Arts/Science and formed the company – originally called Kokusai Boeki Shoji – in 1985. It was originally apparel and footwear, before concentrating on the shoes, particularly at the discount end of the market.
The chain benefitted from the large number of Chinese and other Southeast Asian tourists and visitors to Japan, and in 1990 was rebranded as ABC-Mart. In 2002 the company went public. Masahiro Miki became chairman in 2004, stepping down three years later in 2007.
ABC-Mart is the owner of LaCrosse the American shoe brand which in turn is the owner of the Danner shoe brand.
