Krit Ratanarak Biography
Born in Bangkok, Ratanarak was the eldest of six children and the only male. His father was Chuan Ratanarak, a renowned Thai businessman and considered one of the nation’s last self-made kings of industry and commerce. Chuan founded the Krungsri Bank (originally called the Bank of Ayudhya), Siam City Cement - most notable as the maker of Insee Cement, and Bangkok Broadcasting and Television.
Krit joined the bank in 1972, becoming its president ten years later and its CEO in 1990. When his father died in 1993 Krit stepped up and took over fully running the family business, becoming chairman of the bank, the broadcasting corporation and the cement business. He earned praise in the way he successfully steered all three businesses through the Asian financial crisis.
