Trinh Van Quyet was born in Vĩnh Tường, Vĩnh Phúc, in the Red River Delta region of northern Vietnam. Both of his parents were civil servants. At university he showed an aptitude for business and entrepreneurship, setting up Tutor Office, one of the first of its kind in Hanoi. From there he moved into phones and mobile phones. He founded FLC Group which focussed on real estate, and both FLC’s and Trinh Van Quyet’s growth and success were held up as what the young wave of Vietnamese entrepreneurs could achieve.
